We just got off the Mariner and had cabin 7688. The stairways you refer to are closed off and marked as "crew only", even for the lifeboat drill. I thought the same as you, but was disappointed. dave

Ain’t that the truth! A major design flaw in my book. We had a Cat D aft, which I liked, but not when I hiked! We did discover the "staff" staircase and ended up using it liberally….
